I/my child wants to play for your club. What do I need to do?

Where and when are games played?
U8 games are played Friday nights at Eagle Stadium, Werribee. Games times are either 5pm or 5.45pm.
U10-U16 games are played on Saturday’s from 8am through to 6pm. Generally younger age groups play earlier in the morning and older age groups throughout the afternoon. Most games are played at Eagle Stadium, Werribee and overflow games are played at local school gyms in the Wyndham area.
U18-U23 games are played on Tuesday & Thursday nights at Eagle Stadium, Werribee from 6pm onwards.
Senior Womens is played on a Sunday night from 6pm.
Senior Mens is played on Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays from 6pm.

When do the seasons start/finish?
Summer season is September to April and Winter season is April to September.
What are the costs involved in playing?
Summer 2024 Season Fees are $245/player with a 7% discount for 2 or more siblings.
The Basketball Victoria Insurance fee is payable annually:
$29.00 - 0 - 17 years
$43.00 - 18 years & above
And Basketball Victoria have recently introduced a yearly game development fee for all players, which is $5.50.
All fees are payable at the beginning of the season via Play HQ and there are varying payment options.
Do I need to have experience playing basketball to join?
No, our club takes both new and experienced players. You will be asked about your previous experience and we will do our best to place you into a team of similar ability in an appropriate grade.
How old does my child need to be to start playing basketball?
Under 8’s can start playing from 5 years of age. Under 8’s is a slightly modified version of the game, with shorter halves. Coaches are on the court with the children, the rules are more relaxed, advice and explanations are given in-game by coaches and referees and all children are given the opportunity to try for 2 foul shots each at half time which count towards the game score.
Children ages 5-10 can also participate first in the Aussie Hoops program to get some basic skills prior to joining a club and playing competition basketball. You can find out more about Aussie Hoops HERE.
What equipment do I need to play?
St Andrews playing singlets and shorts are required to be worn for games. Full uniform fee is $95 and uniform can be ordered online HERE or by contacting the uniform coordinator HERE. Other merchandise such as training tops and club hoodies can be purchased but are not compulsory.
Players need to bring their own basketball to training.
Basketball sizes are as follows:
- U8-U12 – size 5
- U14 Boys & U14 and up Girls – size 6
- U16 and up Boys – size 7
Water bottles are required for both training and game day.

What does the club expect from their players?
The club expects all players of all ages to show a commitment to their team and club. This means attending and participating in all training sessions and games or letting your coaches and team managers know as early as possible if you are unable to attend. We expect all players to show respect to their teammates, coaches, opposition, the referees and all involved in the game. Abuse of any sort will not be tolerated. We expect all players to be able to enjoy the game. Read the player code of conduct HERE.
What does the club expect from me as a parent?
The club expects you to honour your child’s commitment to their team and the club. This means making sure they attend all training sessions and games, or letting coaches and team managers know as early as possible if they are unable to attend. Most teams will have a parent scoring roster. This means you will usually score twice (sometime three) times per season. Don’t worry if you have never scored before – all team managers are more than happy to show you how.
Parents are expected to behave respectfully and appropriately at all times. Abuse of any sort, towards anyone involved in the game – players (including your own child), the opposition, coaches, other parents, scorers and especially referees will NOT be tolerated. You will be asked to leave the stadium. You can read the code of conduct HERE.
Does it cost to train?
Each player must pay a $2 entry at eagle stadium, court hire is included in the fees.
